I'm confused. No, wait... Maybe I'm not.

The Thought Police Will Get Me Just the Same

Very soon, Drew will go back to Iraq for a third time. What bothers me most about this is that nobody can give me a reasonable and/or logical answer as to what is is the U.S. hopes to achieve over there. Nothing is going to change.

I find myself more and more torn on this issue because of my job. While I will never directly kill anyone, I suppose I’m indirectly responsible for providing the means for others to do so. Therefore, I am, indeed, responsible.

The situation in Iraq and the way the government is handling it contradicts what I believe myself. But given the circumstance I am in, what room is their for my personal opinions? “Uniformity is Individuality” so to speak.

“Until they become conscious they will never rebel, and until after they they have rebelled they cannot become conscious.”

Arabic civil strife in the country rampant with religious fighting. No clear strategy or goals of the US with no end in sight. Viet Nam revisited with a no win situation. George, where the hell are the weapons of mass destruction? You said on the Lincoln “we won and it’s over.” Why is Drew going back for the third time??

JediMacfan, are you in the army? Jesus Christ. I was in the army (ages ago) and I never once met a single soldier who questioned the ethics or what they were doing.

I’m not in the Army, I’m in the Navy. (And I speak for myself, not the Navy.) If one does not question the ethics involved, then what separates someone from the “terrorists”?

If there was a point to the war in Iraq, there wouldn’t necessarily be a “problem” in the first place. But Iraq isn’t a threat (Where are the WMDs?) yet we’re over there for what? Why should my brother risk his life for a third time for nothing?

Yes, he’s in the Marines, and it’s his “job” to serve. But if I was going to put my ass on the line (literally in the field) I would want some justification and reasoning for my death (in the event that it occurs) rather than end up as another forgotten victim of an already high body count.

There never was a logical reason. It was never about logic. It was, as it always is, about trying to prove who has the biggest stick.
